A car driver may have purposefully driven into a group of people at a playground on Thursday evening in Iserlohn in the Sauerland region (North Rhine-Westphalia).

One person was hit by the car.

The homicide squad is now investigating an alleged attempted homicide and is looking for the unknown driver.

According to previous investigations, the person who was hit by the car was thrown into the air, several others jumped aside in time, the police and prosecutor announced on Saturday.

The driver is said to have approached the group of about 30 people slowly at first.

Then he accelerated his car and drove towards about five people.

When the police arrived, there was a slightly injured 19-year-old on site.

It was said, however, that it was still unclear whether he was hit.

The police and the public prosecutor's office did not rule out a “milieu act”.

The police said that the two men, 20 and 21 years old, are now being investigated for an attempted homicide.

The 52-year-old passerby got into an argument with the two men early on Saturday morning and started filming them with his cell phone.

One of the two drivers hit the pedestrian.

When the two young men then ran away with their vehicles, they ran over the 52-year-old lying on the ground.

The 20-year-old was arrested shortly afterwards.

The other driver turned himself in.
