Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - Easter marchers are on the move in many cities in North Rhine-Westphalia today.

Rallies are planned in Gütersloh, Düren, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn, and an Easter bicycle peace tour in Münster.

The multi-day Rhine-Ruhr Easter March begins in Duisburg (10.30 a.m.).

With the motto “Only disarming creates security”, up to 400 participants are expected in the city center.

Around 200 people want to gather in Düsseldorf (2 p.m.).

In the year of the general election, the traditional Easter marches oppose an increase in military spending, among other things.

The peace groups also reject NATO's requirement to spend two percent of national economic output on defense.

The actions are supported by various parties, church groups, peace groups and, for example, the climate activists from Fridays for Future.

The number of participants is uncertain due to the corona pandemic.

It should be demonstrated in compliance with the hygiene requirements, said the network peace cooperative in Bonn.
