The Capitol in Washington, the seat of the US Congress, has been cordoned off after a security incident.

Two police officers were hit by a car near the building, the police said on Friday.

The two officers were injured.

A suspect had been arrested, the police confirmed on Twitter.

The person should therefore also be on the way to a hospital.

According to an announcement in the building, "at this point in time, no entry or exit is permitted in any building in the Capitol complex," reports Fox News.

Five people died in the process.
