Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Dresden Tonlagen Festival takes place exclusively online this year due to the explosive infection situation.

Since the new Corona Protection Ordinance does not allow any live events in the near future, the program has been adjusted again according to the European Center for the Arts Hellerau.

All events are now running as video and live streams or broadcasts.

The theme of the 30th edition, «Pause», refers to the special situation.

It's about necessary interruption and silence, but also the break in everyday life, “so that art finds its place”.

Music and symposia should stimulate discussion.

The international festival, founded in 1987 by composer Udo Zimmermann as the "Dresden Days of Contemporary Music" and later renamed, presents the latest developments in music and contemporary art every two years.

Due to Corona, the 2021 edition is divided into two parts - four weekends from April 11th and the beginning of 2022 - and mostly free of charge.

However, donation tickets can be purchased to support complex productions.

Every morning a musician interprets a piece by John Cage in the Festspielhaus Hellerau, and the installation “An Invitation to Disappear” by the Swiss artist Julian Charrière continues every evening with filming.

Ensemble Modern by and with the artist Carsten Nicolai presents the fourth part of his Xerrox series, which combines music with video and light installations - as one of two world premieres.
