Potsdam (dpa / bb) - According to the state government, the second highest number of corona vaccinations was administered within a week in Brandenburg - but the vaccine is still scarce.

With 56,899 vaccinations, the current calendar week is the second most successful since the vaccination started at the end of December, the Ministry of the Interior announced on Friday in Potsdam.

So far, almost 344,000 people have received a first vaccination, and almost 105,000 people have received complete protection with a second vaccination.

Due to the lack of vaccines, the vaccination centers are closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, but they are open on Holy Saturday.

Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) regretted the closure.

"We'd all like to give a lot more vaccinations, but that can't be done with empty syringes," said Stübgen.

Brandenburg had stopped the vaccinations with the preparation Astrazeneca at the end of March after several cases of blood clots (thromboses) in cerebral veins in Germany for under 60-year-olds.

After taking last place in a country comparison for the proportion of corona first vaccinations in the population, Brandenburg is now in the upper middle field.

According to the latest figures from the Robert Koch Institute on Thursday, Brandenburg and Thuringia had a share of 13.2 percent.

Only Schleswig-Holstein, Saarland and Bremen were higher.

In the case of the second vaccinations, however, Brandenburg came in last with Schleswig-Holstein with a vaccination rate of 4 percent.
