Viktor Orban has the ambition to create a new group in the European Parliament, but this meeting with Matteo Salvini and Mateusz Morawiecki has not made it possible to consolidate an extreme right group.

“European Renaissance” remains in limbo.

At the end of the meeting, Viktor Orban welcomed "

the first step of a long road together

".

Next step: a new meeting in May, either in Rome or in Warsaw, the date will depend on the evolution of the pandemic.

The objective for Fidesz, Viktor Orban's party, is to form a political group with the other European parties which oppose immigration and wish to “

"

"

" of this alliance, with "

the objective of being the first in Europe,

" said Matteo Salvini, the leader of the far-right League.

Since at the beginning of March, Fidesz, which was in the hot seat, slammed the door of the European People's Party (EPP), the main right-wing force in the European Parliament, he risks by remaining isolated of losing part of his influence and its funding.

Divided and disparate, the far right has so far failed to create a single group in the European Parliament.
