In the CDU, there are increasing voices in favor of Markus Söder's candidacy for chancellor.

Especially in the Bundestag faction of the Union, numerous MPs in the news magazine "Spiegel" plead for the CSU chairman.

The support for CDU leader Armin Laschet is decreasing.

"Markus Söder should be our candidate for chancellor," says CDU member Markus Grübel from Esslingen.

“With him we have a better chance of winning the election.

He has more trust in the population, appears statesmanlike and has shown that he is on a clear course on key issues such as climate protection, ”says Grübel.

He hopes that Laschet will recognize: "With Söder, the Union has better prospects of keeping the Chancellery."

The Saxon CDU member Marian Wendt speaks out in favor of Söder: "The people from my homeland see Markus Söder as a good chancellor," says the President of the THW Federal Association.

"Together with Armin Laschet as CDU chairman, we have a strong team for the federal election."

MEP Marco Wanderwitz made a similar statement.

"Markus Söder stands out, his high approval ratings are good for the whole Union," says the federal government's Eastern Commissioner.

"I would like him to be available as a candidate for chancellor."

Laschet and Söder want to decide between Easter and Pentecost which of them will run.

As the head of the larger sister party, Laschet has the first access, but the significantly better poll results speak for Bavaria's Prime Minister Söder.

Against this background, the CDU presidium member Norbert Röttgen says: "As I have consistently represented since my candidacy for the CDU chairmanship, the Union should put forward the candidate with whom we have the best chance of winning the federal election."

The Bremen CDU MP Elisabeth Motschmann therefore demands: "Markus Söder has to explain himself now." In the event that both he and Laschet wanted to run, the members of both parties should be asked.

"Those who prevail would have a special legitimation."
