Berlin (dpa) - As part of the state purchase bonus for electric cars, the record sum of 765 million euros was paid out in the first quarter of this year, according to information from the German Press Agency.

The premium was applied for for around 128,000 electric cars.

In 2020 as a whole, the total was 652 million euros.

The federal government had significantly increased the state subsidies as part of the economic stimulus package last summer in order to stimulate demand.

That costs the federal government billions.

Since then, a premium of up to 9,000 euros has been possible for pure e-cars below a net list price of 40,000 euros.

The state share is 6,000 euros, the manufacturers give 3,000 euros.

Significantly more e-cars play a major role in the federal government's climate protection program.

New registrations have risen sharply recently, but gasoline and diesel cars still dominate the streets.

Manufacturers are also dependent on massively more electric cars in order to be able to meet EU climate requirements.

The industry is therefore pushing for more speed to expand the charging network.
