Enpa: the tragedy of the lambs for Easter


Once again the tragedy of the transport of live animals, in particular for lambs, comes out on the occasion of the Easter holidays.



In the last few days, the Animal Welfare Foundation (AWF) and the Zoofile Guards of the National Animal Protection Organization (Enpa), with the support of Animal Equality, have followed three trucks carrying thousands of lambs of only 2 or 4 months old from Poland and Romania .



The investigation was carried out in collaboration with three MEPs: Tilly Metz, Caroline Roose and Thomas Waitz, members of the Commission of Inquiry on the transport of live animals to the European Parliament, in Italy, precisely to verify the real problems to which these animals go. meeting.



There were overcrowding on the trucks carrying crowded animals, inadequate watering systems and not reachable by all the animals, lambs dehydrated and exhausted by the conditions of travel, trucks without litter and without water or food.



One of the drivers of the truck from Poland was stopped by the police and was fined more than 1300 euros for inadequate transport conditions, while another driver admitted that he did not provide water to the animals for the duration of the journey.



The trucks traveled over 1,700 km, reaching almost 30 hours of travel, in terrible conditions and without providing adequate care for the animals.



The massacre of the innocents


Every year in Italy more than 2 million lambs are slaughtered for meat consumption.

Only in the Easter period 300,000 are killed.

Most of them are imported via Eastern European routes, a long journey full of suffering for these young animals, loaded on inadequate and unsuitable trucks for the transport of this species, while lambs are often transported without having been weaned.
