For some time now, there has been a reception for long-term covid at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna.

There is a queue for care, and so will it be in Huddinge.

The patient pressure increases week by week.

- We see a need to establish the reception as quickly as possible, says Heidi Stensmyren.

Patients seeking care show a variety of symptoms such as difficulty breathing, memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, headaches, nausea and recurrent infections.

Specialist doctors from a number of different areas will now be hand-picked to put together a team at the new clinic in Huddinge.

- Very many different parts are required here.

And that is a challenge in itself, says Heidi Stensmyren.

In parallel with treatment, long-term covid research will also be conducted at the new reception.

Some sick up to a year in long-term covid

Doctors have been able to see that some recover after a period of discomfort and can return to a normal life.

But for others, the symptoms still persist for up to a year after contracting covid-19.

The BB reception is moving to make room

The BB reception will not close at Karolinska in Huddinge.

It will be moved to other premises.

- BB will not be worsened by this, says Heidi Stensmyren, theme director at Karolinska University Hospital.

Several long-term covid clinics are under construction in several places around Sweden.

In Östergötland, among other places, the ambition is for all hospitals in the region to have a long-term covid reception.
