Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The police union has called for a rethinking of the vaccination strategy for the Hessian police.

There is currently a "two-class society", criticized the new GdP state chairman Jens Mohrherr in an open letter to Hesse's Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU).

The background is therefore a division of the employees according to the specifications of the state police headquarters into a target group 1, which is vaccinated as a priority, and a target group 2, which should be “behind”.

The Ministry of the Interior referred in a statement to the limited availability of the vaccine.

According to GdP, employees from the second group, as well as their colleagues from target group 1, are often deployed in the forefront of police activities, such as demonstrations or traffic controls, according to Mohrherr.

This means that employees from the non-vaccinated group work alongside vaccinated colleagues from target group 1 - in the same job.

These employees are "increasingly losing confidence in their political responsibility," said Mohrherr.

The ministry said that the limited availability of vaccines is still "the all-important factor in vaccination progress".

The vaccination sequence is specified in the ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Health, which is based on the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

The assignment to the priority groups set out in the Coronavirus Vaccination Ordinance is activity-related for police and emergency services.

Members of the Hessian police are entitled to high priority vaccinations if they are exposed to a high risk of infection due to their work, especially during demonstrations, explained the ministry.

In addition, they belonged to prioritization group 3, which is currently not yet eligible for vaccination.

However, if police officers belonged to group 2 with higher priority - for example because of previous illnesses - they could already register for vaccinations now.

«Currently around a third of the employees of the Hessian police have already received a site-specific first vaccination.

That is about 7000 employees of the Hessian police ”, it said.
