Munich (dpa) - At the ATP tennis tournament in Munich, 14 players from the top 50 of the world rankings are to serve at the end of the month.

After the top seeded German Alexander Zverev and shooting star Jannik Sinner from South Tyrol, the organizers of the BMW Open announced on Thursday that more well-formed professionals had confirmed their participation in the sandpit event from April 24th to May 2nd.

Tournament director Patrik Kühnen spoke of “one of the strongest and at the same time most balanced fields of players that we have had at the BMW Open so far”.

In addition to Zverev, the Russian Australian Open semi-finalists Aslan Karazew and Marton Fucsovics from Hungary, who are among the top ten in the ATP annual ranking, are also expected to compete.

"Anyone who is way ahead in the ATP Race is currently the measure of all things," said Kühnen.

The three as well as Sinner, the Briton Daniel Evans, Hubert Hurkacz from Poland and the Georgian Nikolos Bassilaschwili have all won ATP tournaments this season.

As a local hero, the Augsburg veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber will be at the start for the 16th time on Aumeisterweg in Munich.

The 37-year-old has not yet played a match this year and won the tournament in Munich in 2007, 2012 and 2016.

Davis Cup players Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) and Dominik Koepfer (Donaueschingen) have also been confirmed as German participants.

In addition to the 19 known starters, all of whom are among the best 71 in the world rankings, there are four qualifiers, three players with a wildcard and two players with special starting rights.
