Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - A man has been sentenced by the Frankfurt Regional Court to five years and eleven months in prison for the trade in hashish and marijuana.

The 51-year-old defendant had been involved in several drug imports from Spain to Germany since the beginning of 2018 and temporarily stored and resold the drug in the district of Gießen and in the Rhine-Main area.

A total of more than 40 kilograms changed hands - the court drew sales proceeds of more than 62,000 euros in the judgment on Thursday.

In the process that had been going on for several weeks, the defendant had made a partial confession.

Even if hashish and marijuana are only "soft drugs", the penalty should be so high given the large amount and the long period of crime, it said.

The defendant with a relevant criminal record is a “commercial drug dealer”.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.
