The old house from the 19th century is located between the railway station and Fredriksbergsskolan in central Ronneby.

The house was left standing when the surrounding neighborhoods with older buildings were demolished in the 1960s.

But when the current property owner wants to demolish the house to build a new one, there is no longer anything to keep the excavators away.

As Sydöstran previously reported, the Environment and Building Committee has decided that the building may be demolished.

Criticized demolition

The decision has created debate.

Blekinge Museum demanded that the house be preserved.

"It is a valuable annual ring in the city's history", as the museum puts it.

The opposition is also critical.

- It's just a pity that they did not listen to the museum more, says Christer Svantesson (S), who is a member of the environment and building committee.

Got a majority

The Alliance, with the support of the Sweden Democrats, received a majority for the decision to allow demolition.

In the vote in the committee on March 24, they together had eight votes.

The Social Democrats and the Left Party, which voted against, together had five votes.

- There are those who want to preserve everything as it has been.

There are many houses in Ronneby that are from the corresponding era and better preserved, says Hillevi Andersson, chairman of the environment and building committee, about the motivation for the decision.
