Aurich (dpa / lni) - Easter customs such as “renting eggs” or “egg roaring” are an integral part of the Easter holidays for many East Frisians, according to an expert.

There is a lot of identification with Easter customs in the region, says the director of the cultural agency of the East Frisian landscape in Aurich, Katrin Rodrian, of the German press agency.

"For many, they simply belong to the feeling of home."

Like other customs and traditions, they strengthened the sense of community and promoted cohesion.

In addition to the popular Easter bonfires and the Easter egg hunt, which are widespread throughout Northern Germany, other, sometimes curious, customs are known in East Frisia.

These include, for example, egg roaring, in which Easter eggs are rolled competitively from dunes and dykes, or egg hiring.

Easter eggs are thrown as far as possible.

The thrower whose egg flies the furthest and remains unharmed wins.
