Contains about 40 mutations ... The discovery of a new strain of Corona

African disease authorities discovered a new strain of Corona virus when examining a traveler heading from Tanzania to Angola.

The African Centers for Disease Control said the strain contained about 40 mutations.

"This is definitely a different kind of concern," John Nkengasung, head of the African Centers for Disease Control, said at a news conference on Thursday.

It is possible that tracing the new strain will be impossible, as Tanzania does not disclose any data on the Coronavirus situation.

The late President John Magufuli - who died recently - resisted anti-Corona virus moves during his time in power.

With so little evidence left, Nkengasung said it is difficult to know whether the current vaccines will help fight the new viral strain.

Along with many other countries, the continent is heading towards a third wave of the Corona outbreak, Nkengasung said.

The Corona strain, which was first discovered in Britain, and the strain that was discovered in South Africa, was monitored in 18 countries across the African continent, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nkengasung welcomed the approval of one of the vaccine manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson, to start producing its vaccine in South Africa.

The company agreed to provide 220 million doses, with an option to provide another 180 million doses, the vast majority of which will be manufactured in South Africa.
