Bad Nauheim (dpa / lhe) - Bad Nauheim, the temporary home of US musician Elvis Presley, is still waiting for the "King" to return.

A life-size bronze statue of the singer (1935-1977) should have been installed at an original location in the Wetterau city as early as January - but this had to be postponed due to the corona pandemic.

Now the city plans to put the statue up on August 13 during the annual Elvis Festival, a spokeswoman said.

In 2018, fans had the idea of having Elvis cast in bronze and collecting donations for it.

Last October, after months of work, the statue was completed and presented to the public.

It should look as detailed as possible, because the figure was based on a photo probably taken in 1959, which shows Presley on a footbridge in Bad Nauheim.

In the future, the statue will stand exactly where he was leaning against the railing.

Presley was stationed as a soldier in Friedberg from October 1958 to March 1960 and lived in neighboring Bad Nauheim during this time.

Even today, fans make a pilgrimage to the original locations from back then, some of which are still preserved in the spa town.

The next “European Elvis Festival” is to take place from August 13th to 15th.

Because of the pandemic, it may be a little smaller again like in 2020, the city said.
