April 01, 2021 At least 15 other deaths were recorded yesterday in Myanmar, a figure that brings the total number of victims since the start of the anti-coup protests to at least 536: the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (Aapp) reports. 



According to the non-profit organization for the defense of human rights based in Thailand, two people were killed on Wednesday, while 13 had lost their lives in recent days but had not been counted.

Authorities have so far arrested a total of 2,729 people. 



According to reports from the AFP news agency, a brief hearing in the trial of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi is scheduled for today, which should focus on the administrative aspects of the case.



UN envoy: imminent bloodbath


"A bloodbath is imminent."

This was stated by the UN special envoy to Myanmar, Christine Schraner Burgener, during a closed-door meeting of the Security Council.

In his speech, obtained by Ansa, he then stated that the Council must weigh "potentially significant actions that can reverse the course of events". 



China to UN: no sanctions, transition is needed


China wants a "democratic transition" for Myanmar and excludes sanctions against the country.

This was stated by the Chinese ambassador to the UN, Zhang Jun.

"China hopes for a restoration of peace, stability and constitutional order as soon as possible and continues to push for a democratic transition," he pointed out.
