Leinefelde (dpa / th) - With a so-called grandchildren trick, phone fraudsters have relieved an 83-year-old woman by tens of thousands of euros.

An unknown woman called the senior citizen in Leinefelde (Eichsfeld district) on Wednesday, pretended to be her granddaughter and asked for financial support to buy an apartment, the police said on Thursday.

The stranger also increased the pressure with a second call.

The elderly woman fell for the scam in the end and gave the woman the money at a meeting.

According to the police, more and more complaints of fraud have recently been received.

Among other things, on Wednesday an unknown man used an excuse to steal a transfer order for several thousand euros from an older woman in Nordhausen.

On Monday in Mühlhausen (Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis) surface cleaners changed the contract with a 78-year-old afterwards and thus obtained a much higher price.
