Dresden (dpa) - The corona vaccinations continue in Saxony despite the new restrictions for the Astrazeneca preparation on the Easter holidays.

"Anyone who has a vaccination appointment can also use it," said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) on Wednesday in Dresden.

From Thursday (April 1st) the vaccine from Biontech will be used in the vaccination centers.

It was "very unfortunate" that there was another change in the use of Astrazeneca, said Köpping.

It was not until mid-March that vaccinations started again after a vaccination break of several days and new checks.

On Tuesday evening, the federal and state governments followed the recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) to only use Astrazeneca for people aged 60 and over.

Younger people can continue to be vaccinated with it after consulting a doctor and at their own risk.

The background is cases of blood clots (thromboses) in cerebral veins.

How things will go on with those under 60 who have already been vaccinated with Astrazeneca is currently unclear.

Pressure was put on the vaccination commission to give an answer by mid-April, said Köpping.

In the 111 general practitioner practices in Vogtland and the 39 model practices, people over 60 can still be vaccinated with Astrazeneca;

for younger people, the practices are to be supplied with other vaccines such as Biontech.

"We'll mix that up well."

The resolution of the conference of health ministers also provides that federal states can now vaccinate 60 to 69 year olds with Astrazeneca.

The minister announced that this will be released in the next few days and implemented in the vaccination centers.

Despite everything, the Astrazeneca vaccine has so far been well received in Saxony.

With a view to current developments, Köpping assumes that more advice and education will be necessary in the future.

According to the German Red Cross (DRK), it is initially unclear how the new dates for the first vaccinations will continue after Easter.

"We drive on sight," said DRK spokesman Kai Kranich on request.

The further development depends on the quantities of vaccine supplied.

Köpping pointed out that another preparation, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, will be available from mid-April.

In addition, Saxony is to receive more than 700,000 vaccine doses in April - more than was previously administered in Saxony (around 641,000 doses).

In the meantime, Volkswagen has suspended its model project to vaccinate employees in Zwickau.

One is now waiting for further instructions from the DRK, said a spokesman on Wednesday.

The project is docked to the vaccination center in Zwickau.

VW was one of the first industrial companies in Germany to start participating in the vaccination campaign through company doctors.

Initially, 300 doses of Astrazeneca active ingredient were available for an initial vaccination.

Meanwhile, the corona incidence in Saxony has fallen slightly again.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) put the weekly value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week on Wednesday at 182.3.

On Tuesday the incidence was 193.4 and the day before it was 200.4.

Nationwide, the value on Wednesday was 132.3.

After Thuringia, Saxony continues to have the second highest new infection rate of all federal states.
