Russian Embassy confirms the detention of a diplomat in Italy

RIA Novosti informs about it with reference to the message of the diplomatic mission.

“We confirm the arrest on March 30 in Rome of an employee of the military attaché's office.

The circumstances of the incident are being investigated, ”the embassy said.

The embassy also expressed the hope that the incident would not affect bilateral relations between Russia and Italy.

Earlier it was reported that the Italian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador to Rome after the arrest of a Russian diplomat on charges of espionage.

The ROS carabinieri special unit said that a Russian officer working at the embassy in Rome and a captain of the Italian Navy were detained on charges of espionage.
