Leipzig (dpa / sn) - After the Leipzig Book Fair was canceled this year, Portugal should make up for its guest country appearance in 2022.

He is very pleased with this decision, said Book Fair Director Oliver Zille on Wednesday.

The appearance of the southern Europeans should be under the motto "Unexpected encounters" and include literature from various Portuguese-speaking countries such as Angola, Guinea-Bissau or Mozambique.

This year, 50 new books from Portugal and other countries will be published in German.

She hopes to be able to welcome different authors to Leipzig in 2022, said the curator of the guest country appearance, Patricia Severino.

The Leipzig Book Fair should have been held from May 27th to 30th, but, as in the previous year, was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Instead of the fair, this year there is a small extra edition of the reading festival «Leipzig reads».

Portugal will also take part in this with a number of events.
