Kiel (dpa / lno) - With more officials on the streets and in squares, the police in Schleswig-Holstein want to monitor compliance with the corona regulations at Easter.

"Until the end of the vaccination campaign, compliance with the rules is and will remain the most important factor in containing the pandemic," said Interior Minister Sabine Sütterlin-Waack (CDU) on Wednesday.

"The police will therefore increase their presence over the Easter weekend in order to monitor compliance with the corona rules together with the responsible municipal forces and to enforce them where necessary."

She also misses personal contact with family and friends.

"That is of course especially true for the holidays," said Sütterlin-Waack.

"But we know that by far the greatest number of infections occur through private contacts."

She is counting on the fact that the people of Schleswig-Holstein will be on the road with a high degree of personal responsibility, as in the past few months.

Currently, in the vast majority of the country, a maximum of five people from two households are allowed to meet.

Children under the age of 14 from these households are not counted.

In the districts of Pinneberg and Segeberg as well as in Flensburg, contacts are even more limited from Thursday.

According to state police director Michael Wilksen, additional police patrols are used primarily in places of tourist interest, in local recreation areas and in areas with high numbers of infections.

The municipal authorities are still primarily responsible for the controls.

"Of course, the respective health and regulatory authorities in the municipalities can, as before, count on the support of the state police in the context of administrative assistance."
