Heavy gunfire was heard during the night of March 30 to 31, in Niamey, Niger, in the administrative district near the presidential palace.

The police quickly intervened and the situation calmed down after a quarter of an hour, according to security sources.

What we do know is that at 3 a.m., there was shooting for several minutes in the administrative district of Niamey, not far from the Presidency of the Republic and the headquarters of the Union. African woman, on the banks of the Niger river.

We do not yet know the origin of these shots, but they would come from some elements of the army, according to well-informed sources.

There would have been a very strong response from the Presidential Guard.

This Wednesday morning, everything is back to normal in Niamey.

Traffic is fluid in the city center.

An authorized source says everything is under control and arrests have reportedly taken place.

A statement from the Nigerien authorities is expected in the morning.
