Munich (dpa / lby) - With the start of vaccination at family doctors in Bavaria on Wednesday, vaccination against the corona virus is to be significantly accelerated.

“We did everything to get the family doctors vaccinated before Easter.

This is an important signal, ”emphasized Bavaria's Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU), who visited a doctor's practice in Munich when the vaccination started.

Despite the unpredictability of the Astrazeneca vaccine, doctors began vaccinating in 1635.

Each practice received an average of 20 vaccination doses, Holetschek said in a press release.

"It's only a small amount, but we can already shift into the next gear with it."

After Easter, around 8,500 practices will receive vaccine from pharmacies and wholesalers.

"We will first offer vaccinations to those patients who, due to their age or previous illnesses, belong to the vulnerable groups," said Wolfgang Ritter from the board of directors of the Bavarian General Practitioner Association.

"But anyone who wants to be vaccinated will get this protection in a timely manner."
