The president of the Ile-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, in her office this Monday in Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) -

LEWIS JOLY / SIPA for 20 Minutes

  • Valérie Pécresse will set up a compensation system of 85 euros for all students and young Ile-de-France residents with the Imagine'R pass.

  • The platform will go live on April 22.

Ile-de-France Mobilités is already warning against fraudulent sites.

  • “The idea is to fight against the precariousness of young people.

It is a gesture of price justice, ”explains the president of Ile-de-France Mobilités.

Young people and students are bearing the brunt of the economic and health crisis.

Confinements, lessons in reduced tonnage, precariousness and health protocols… Travel in the Ile-de-France region has fallen sharply.

However, transport costs continue to apply.

The president of the Ile-de-France and Ile-de-France Mobilités region, Valérie Pécresse, has decided to rectify the situation.

“They didn't use the Imagine'R pass as much as they could have.

It therefore seemed fair to me to propose a gesture of compensation for the non-use of this pass, ”she explains in an interview with

20 Minutes

.

The health crisis has hit young people and students hard.

What do you suggest to help them in Ile-de-France?

We know that young people, students, have found themselves deprived of university and face-to-face classes since September.

Tutorials take place and there is an obligation for universities to have them come back at least one day a week.

Nevertheless, we see that the use of their Imagine'R pass has been less this year than in previous years due to Covid-19 and lockdowns.

Unlike the Navigo pass, it is not possible to suspend the Imagine'R pass.

In each quarter, there is the equivalent of a month that has not been consumed.

We have therefore decided for these students, often in a precarious situation, to make a gesture of compensation.

What are the contours of this gesture, as you say?

It is a commercial gesture that we are going to make towards the students.

I will propose to the administrators of Ile-de-France Mobilités on April 14 the establishment of a compensation of 85 euros, corresponding to three months of Imagine'R pass, for all holders of the transport ticket.

It is a very strong gesture towards students for their purchasing power and that of their families.

They didn't use the Imagine'R Pass as much as they could have.

It therefore seemed fair to me to propose a gesture of compensation for the non-use of this pass.

How many people will be affected?

This concerns more than 500,000 students.

The idea is to fight against the precariousness of young people.

It is a gesture of tariff justice.

It is a cost of 43 million euros.

How is this going to work?

We are going to open a platform to allow compensation, the information of which will be given on the iledefrance-mobilites.fr site.

It will open from April 22.

You will need to enter your Imagine'R student pass number.

And they will be refunded to their account.

Until then, I warn against fraudulent sites, as with each compensation.

Is it a measure of the president of the Ile-de-France region or of the candidate for regional elections?

It is a measure that was unanimously requested by the board of directors of Ile-de-France Mobilités, all political tendencies combined.

It is a consensual measure which seems justified to me.

The president of Ile-de-France Mobilités is not in the countryside.
