Berlin (dpa) - The Eisbären Berlin have celebrated their fourth success in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and thus consolidated their lead in the northern group.

On Wednesday evening, the capital city won against the Straubing Tigers 1-0 (0-0, 0-0, 1-0).

A low goal by Giovanni Fiore was enough for the Berliners to win a hard-fought home win because goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger celebrated his fifth shutout of the season.

In front of the empty stands in the arena at Ostbahnhof, the hosts could tell that they had to do without five injured attackers and therefore had to make do with only three rows of storms.

The Straubinger determined the early stages, the first third ended goalless.

Even after the first break, both teams hardly managed anything offensively.

So the only goal fell in the final section: When the guests played in excess, the Berliners countered successfully.

After a cross pass from Matt White, Fiore was completely free and scored from close range.

In the remaining minutes Niederberger thwarted all attempts to equalize the Straubinger and secured the capital city's 13th victory in the 15th home game of the season.
