Weimar (dpa / th) - A squatting triggered a large-scale police operation in Weimar on Tuesday.

In the morning, men and women had occupied an empty building.

Posters on the house walls indicated that the squatters came from the left spectrum, said a police spokesman.

Near the house, there was also a demonstration of around 50 sympathizers, which was peaceful.

The house once housed the workshop of the bookbinder and Bauhaus teacher Otto Dorfner (1885 to 1955).

According to the police, the squatters also wanted to draw attention to the housing situation for students in Weimar.

According to the police spokesman, there was a conversation between Weimar's Lord Mayor Peter Kleine and the squatters.

According to the police, they had been given an ultimatum to leave the house by late afternoon.

Shortly before the deadline, the seven squatters had voluntarily vacated the building.

They were reported to have trespassed against them, it was said.

Around 100 police officers were on duty.

The Thüringische Landeszeitung had previously reported on the squatting.
