Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Together with State Office chief Torsten Voss, Hamburg's Senator for the Interior Andy Grote (SPD) will present the Constitutional Protection Report 2020 today.

It shows the development of extremist forces in the city over the past year.

One year after the outbreak of the pandemic, knowledge about possible connections between so-called corona deniers and right-wing extremists is expected.

In this context, Grote had warned early on of a “rather cloudy brew”, in which “potentials and networking would be seen in the anti-constitutional area”.

In the 2019 Verfassungsschutz report, 330 people in Hamburg were classified as right-wing extremists, 130 of them as violence-oriented.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution attributed 1,290 people to left-wing extremism, 940 of them violent.

The number of Islamists was given as 1631, among them 384 jihadists, i.e. people who are ready for holy war by force.

The number of extremists with a foreign connection - including the banned Kurdish Workers' Party PKK - was 790. The potential of the Scientology organization, which was also observed, was estimated at 300.
