Mainz (dpa) - The Mainz corona vaccine manufacturer Biontech and its US partner Pfizer are aiming to expand their production capacity to 2.5 billion doses by the end of this year.

The Mainz-based company announced this on Tuesday when it presented its business figures for the past year.

So far there has been talk of 2 billion doses.

"The increase was mainly made possible by improved manufacturing processes, the commissioning of Biontech's production facility in Marburg, the approval of the withdrawal of a sixth vaccine dose and the expansion of our manufacturer and supplier network," the company explained.
