US sources said that Washington informed Tehran of its readiness for a simultaneous return to full compliance with the terms of the nuclear agreement, and the White House confirmed its readiness to enter into a fruitful diplomatic process with Iran.

The Axios news site, citing US officials, reported that President Joe Biden's administration had informed Iran that it was ready to take first steps on a reciprocal basis, or for the two parties to return to full compliance with the terms of the nuclear deal.

The site added that Washington faces 3 obstacles that prevent progress with Iran on the nuclear file, which are the lack of direct communication channels with Iran, divisions in the Iranian leadership, and the presidential elections in Iran.

The "Axios" website stated that indirect contacts with Iran consume time, and that they have led on more than one occasion to a misunderstanding between the parties.

On the other hand, the "Axios" website quoted American and Israeli sources as saying that Iran had rejected an American proposal that includes steps to release Iranian funds in South Korea, in exchange for Iran backing down on some steps to reduce commitment to the nuclear agreement.

For her part, White House spokeswoman Jane Saki said that the US administration is committed to diplomatic work with Iran, which may take time at times.

Sacchi added that Washington is ready to enter into a fruitful diplomatic process in order for Iran to fulfill its obligations within the framework of the nuclear deal.

Politico revealed an American proposal asking Iran to halt some of its nuclear activities in exchange for easing sanctions, adding that American and Iranian officials realize that if there is no breakthrough in the coming weeks, it is unlikely that any progress will be made until next September.

On the other hand, the Elysee Palace stated that French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin several files on Tuesday, where they agreed in a video conference to coordinate efforts to return Iran to full compliance with its international obligations as soon as possible.

Iran's position

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called on Washington to get rid of what he described as bad habits in politics, stressing that this only happens with a difficult decision.

Zarif accused the US president of following the path of his predecessor, Donald Trump, while adhering to the sanctions, describing America's call for his country to abide by the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which Washington withdrew, as an "unfortunate and reprehensible irony."

As for the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, he said that his country does not attach importance to sanctions, and does not need the nuclear agreement, considering that if the United States lifted the sanctions, this would be an achievement for his country, and if they were not lifted, "Iran will prevail because the sanctions are ineffective."
