Koblenz (dpa / lrs) - Because of the corona pandemic, this year's edition of the traditional fireworks spectacle "Rhine in Flames" has also been canceled.

After the kick-off event on May 1st in Bonn and the Siebengebirge in North Rhine-Westphalia had already been canceled, this has now also been decided for the series of events in Bingen and Rüdesheim, between Spay and Koblenz and between Oberwesel and Sankt Goar, said Romantischer Rhein Tourismus GmbH in Koblenz on Tuesday.

"At the moment there are no political perspectives on whether and how major events can be held from the summer," explained managing director Kristina Neitzert.

In this uncertain situation, a decision was made that took into account civil protection and the economic obligations of those involved.

The early cancellation gives the participating locations the opportunity to create alternative concepts for pandemic-compliant events and travel occasions.

Among other things, seven fireworks and a convoy with around 50 ships between Spay and Koblenz are affected by the cancellation.
