Kiel / Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The service union Verdi is demanding a wage increase of 4.5 percent and 45 euros more per month for retail workers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The union is also calling for a minimum wage of 12.50 euros per hour, as Verdi announced on Monday.

In addition, the training allowance is to increase by 70 euros per year of training.

"During the pandemic, the employees under difficult working conditions and increased work pressure ensured that large parts of the industry achieved very good sales and profits," said Matthias Baumgart from Verdi Nord.

In cases where companies have got into an emergency due to the crisis, collective bargaining solutions could be adapted.

The collective agreements were terminated on June 30th.

A first hearing date is not yet known.

According to Verdi, around 35,000 people work in retail in the northeast.
