Los Angeles (AP) - "Black Panther" star Chadwick Boseman has been posthumously awarded a NAACP prize for African American artists.

Boseman, who died of cancer last August at the age of 43, was honored in the "Best Film Actor" category at the weekend.

He received the US award for his role in "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" as a jazz trumpeter in the 1920s.

The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the United States.

The NAACP Image Awards were presented for the 52nd time this year in categories such as film, television, literature and music.

Actor and comedian Eddie Murphy was inducted into the organization's Hall of Fame.
