Leipzig (dpa / sn) - With the start of the night shift, a four-day strike started before Easter at the mail order company Amazon in Leipzig on Sunday evening.
As strike leader Thomas Schneider said on Monday morning, according to his information, a large part of the colleagues followed the call by the Verdi service union.
Because of the corona pandemic, the strike takes place in "silent form".
The strike participants simply stayed at home.
According to him, pickets distributed information material to colleagues who did not participate at the entrances to the company premises.
In the morning, banners and flags are to be placed on the fence around the site.
He assumes that around 400 of around 1200 employees will take part in the strike, said Schneider.
The strike is said to last until the late shift on Thursday evening.
According to a company spokesman, participation in the strike was “very low”.

Amazon does not expect any effects.

In previous strike calls, more than 90 percent of the employees in the logistics centers “worked normally”, it said.

The Verdi union has been fighting for a collective agreement in Leipzig for eight years.
Amazon sees itself wrongly criticized.
