Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The corona pandemic and the associated travel restrictions have resulted in a loss at Hamburg Airport for the first time in at least 25 years.

Overall, in the most difficult financial year in post-war history, a deficit of 113 million euros had accumulated, said airport boss Michael Eggenschwiler on Monday in Hamburg.

The number of passengers in Corona year 2020 fell by almost 74 percent to around 4.6 million compared to the previous year.

All hopes of Germany's oldest airport are now on the summer business - with the expected number of passengers for 2021 has already been reduced by one million to 7.5 million.

According to Eggenschwiler, the end of the crisis is expected in 2023.
