Halle (dpa) - Trial operation has begun in the new joint facility between Porsche and Schuler AG (Baden-Württemberg) in Halle.

Series production is due to start on May 5th, a spokesman for the joint venture Smart Press Shop GmbH & Co. KG announced on Monday.

The occasion was the visit of Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) to the construction site in the “Star-Park” industrial area.

According to the information, body parts for the Porsche plant in neighboring Leipzig will be manufactured in the new building.

It is also possible to produce parts for other vehicle manufacturers.

The company Smart Press Shop GmbH is said to be a 50:50 joint venture company.

Around 135 employees are expected to work in the new plant in three shifts by 2022.

A company spokesman announced that around 100 million euros will be invested.

The settlement is important for the entire economic region of the states of Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia as well as the labor market, said the Prime Minister.

In Saxony-Anhalt alone, around 25,000 jobs are associated with the automotive industry.

This includes many medium-sized companies.

The “Star Park” industrial area on Autobahn 14 in Halle is an up-and-coming location for companies to settle near Leipzig / Halle Airport.

The Porsche location in Leipzig and the press shop in Halle are around 30 kilometers apart.
