Munich (dpa / lby) - More than 20 musicians want to open the Bavarian State Opera and the Philharmonie in Munich with an urgent application.

The application was made on Monday at the Bavarian Administrative Court, said a spokeswoman for the "Stand up for art" initiative of the German Press Agency in Munich.

Applicants include the soprano Marlies Petersen, the bass Christof Fischesser and the tenor Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, all three of whom were recently heard in the live stream of the newly staged opera “Rosenkavalier” at the State Opera.

The artists are directed against the 12th Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance.

The blanket ban on concerts and performances stipulated therein as well as the general closings of theaters, operas and concert halls violate, in their opinion, the freedom of art guaranteed in the Basic Law.

Almost two weeks ago, the “Stand Up for Art” initiative filed a popular lawsuit.

Supporters include star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and baritone Christian Gerhaher.

In their view, culture is unfairly disadvantaged compared to retailers or churches, for example.

Hairdressers have also been opened.

The risk in theaters is minimal, given the good ventilation systems and hygiene concepts.
