Munich (dpa / lby) - Schoolchildren should carry out self-tests for the corona virus at home, according to Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD).

This is preferable for infectious reasons, as children and adolescents who tested positive would not even go to school, writes Reiter in a letter to Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) and Education Minister Michael Piazolo (Free Voters).

In addition, you can prevent children with a positive test result from being stigmatized by classmates.

According to Reiters, a positive test can be a major psychological burden, especially for primary school children.

This could be better absorbed by the family, said the SPD politician.

He also sees a great burden for teachers when they are supposed to supervise student self-tests.

Not all of them are up to the challenge, especially if the test result is positive.

In this case one must reckon with violent emotional outbursts, "ranging from fear, shame to social exclusion", both among the teachers and the students.

There is heated debate about the planned self-tests.

The Bavarian Teachers' Association in particular had strongly criticized the order that teachers should supervise these tests.
