Munich (AP) - The actress Martina Gedeck is honored with the honorary award at the Bavarian Film Prize.

«Martina Gedeck shows a fascinating versatility in her roles.

For me, she is the German Meryl Streep, "said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Monday, according to a message about the 59-year-old.

Gedeck is passionate about her job and is well known far beyond Germany's borders.

The award is to be presented to the actress on April 28th as part of a television program that will be shown on BR television from 10 p.m. onwards.

Gedeck was born in Munich in 1961, grew up in Landshut and now lives in Berlin.

Her works include “Bella Martha”, “The Baader Meinhof Complex”, “Terror - Your Judgment” or “Tannbach - Fate of a Village”.

She also played in the Oscar-winning Stasi drama "The Lives of Others" by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.

Gedeck has already received many honors for her acting performance, such as the German Film Prize or the Adolf Grimme Prize.

The undoped honorary award of the Bavarian Prime Minister has been awarded since 1979.

Those honored included prominent filmmakers such as Wim Wenders, Hannelore Elsner and Bruno Ganz.

It usually takes place as part of a film awards gala, where other awards are also given.

Due to Corona, the event will only be shown as a television broadcast this year.
