A gigantic fire ravaged one of the largest oil refineries in Indonesia on Monday, March 29, in Balongan, in the west of the island of Java.

The site, which is one of the largest refineries in the country, was devastated by flames,
the disaster management agency
said

The report this Monday morning reported "
five seriously injured people, fifteen with minor injuries and three people still wanted,
" said the same agency.
On the massively circulating images, one can see gigantic flames and tall columns of black smoke escaping from the site located in Balongan, in the west of the island of Java, about 200 km from the capital Jakarta.

"
We have stopped operations to prevent the fire from spreading [...] and we are making every effort to control the flames,
" said Nicke Widyawati, managing director of the state-owned Pertamina oil company in charge of the site.
As of yet, the cause of the blaze has not been determined but the fire broke out during a heavy thunderstorm with lightning, the company said.
Nearly a thousand residents had to be evacuated and the local disaster management agency reported one death due to a heart attack after an explosion.
