Berlin (dpa / bb) - During the Easter holidays, Berlin students can close learning gaps in a so-called spring school.

About 400 learning groups for up to 4,000 pupils are offered, according to the education administration.

Up to ten children and young people could study together in groups for 15 hours a week.

The background to this is the corona pandemic: "Learning backlogs can be a result of the partial school closings," says Education Senator Sandra Scheeres (SPD).

The spring school is aimed at second graders and aims to promote them in arithmetic, reading, writing and early English.

In addition, learning opportunities are planned for ninth and tenth graders.

In addition to the spring school for pupils from general schools, there are a total of 1040 places for pupils from vocational schools.

Educational offers for Berlin's schoolchildren were already made in the summer, autumn and Christmas holidays.

According to the education administration, 765,000 euros will be made available for the implementation of the spring school.

The spring school is aimed at pupils who are exempt from paying their own share of learning materials and who are eligible under the Education and Participation Act (LmB / BuT) and who are proposed by the teachers for the project.

According to the education administration, new immigrant children in need should be given special consideration when making the selection.

From March 29th to April 10th, Berlin has two weeks of Easter break.
