- I have missed this kindergarten, says five-year-old Ville Lilja before he runs away to the slide.

The moving load already took place on Thursday, and educators have worked hard over the weekend to complete the rooms at Torgbacken's preschool.

The renovation is due to the major mold problems the preschool had - which SVT Nyheter Blekinge revealed in 2016. The mold problem caused allergy-like problems for staff for several years, before Karlskrona municipality decided to move operations in November 2019.

- There has been a concern but I think it has subsided now.

It has been a long process but it really feels like everything has been fixed so it feels good, says principal Anne Mattisson Ferm.

Alarm about lead and mercury

However, mold problems are not the only thing that has affected Torgbacken's preschool.

In September 2020, the alarm came that too high levels of lead and mercury had been found in the ground at the school's play surfaces.

The municipality of Karlskrona commissioned an external company to make a risk assessment of the poison discoveries, which established that neither children nor staff came into contact with the contaminated soil - and gave the go-ahead for moving in.
