This is a first: a virtual house was sold using “non-fungible token” (NFT) technology, these unique digital tokens associated with a virtual object.

The main feature of this process is to make digital works of art tamper-proof and thus ensure their authenticity.

The "Mars House"

Called "Mars House", this virtual house was imagined and designed by Krista Kim, reports

Le Figaro

.

It was sold on the site specializing in the sale of digital works of art SuperRare.

To afford it, its new owner paid 288 ethers, a cryptocurrency, which represents 500,000 dollars (approximately 420,000 euros).

The person who has acquired this very special property will be able to admire it in video but also in virtual reality.

In the future, it should be possible to walk inside thanks to an augmented reality application called SuperWorld.
