Right now, a race is underway between three companies that all have the same goal - to create green steel. If they succeed, it can contribute to a dramatic reduction in emissions in Sweden. - If they succeed, 35 million tonnes of carbon dioxide will disappear. This means that twice as much disappears as all cars, trucks and planes in Sweden, says SVT's financial reporter Johan Zachrisson.
But how green is green steel really?
SVT's financial reporters believe that it depends on what electricity the companies use in the process.
- If, as in Sweden, you have a lot of fossil-free electricity, it will be very green steel.
But if you instead have an electricity that comes from oil or coal power plants, well, then the coal will not be so green at all.
