Boppard (dpa / lrs) - Boppard on the Rhine gets a new head of the city.

In the runoff election on Sunday, the CDU candidate Jörg Haseneier prevailed against Niko Neuser from the SPD with 53.5 percent of the vote.

The turnout in the small town in the Rhein-Hunsrück district was 58.9 percent.

In the first vote two weeks earlier, none of the then three applicants had been able to prevail straight away.

Incumbent Walter Bersch (SPD) was no longer running because the age limit was exceeded.

Boppard has around 16,000 inhabitants.
