Kelkheim (dpa / lhe) - In the runoff election for the post of mayor of Kelkheim, the incumbent Albrecht Kündiger from the Independent Kelkheim Voters' Initiative (UKW) prevailed.

In the polls on Sunday, he won 53.86 percent of the vote, which was enough to beat the challenger Dirk Hofmann from the CDU.

Over 22,000 citizens were entitled to vote, and the turnout was 53.93 percent.

At the first attempt two weeks ago, Kündiger narrowly failed, 49.22 percent of the voters had voted for him.

Hofmann received 34.2 percent of the vote.

The other three applicants were eliminated.
