“Ultimately, we must build our relationship with China from a position of strength,” added the secretary of state.

He stressed that the United States will count on the support of partners and allies.

“If we develop a joint approach to the challenges that China presents, we will be more effective in dealing with them,” Blinken added.

On March 22, the US, EU, UK and Canada imposed sanctions on China for “violating Uyghur rights” in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
