Marbach (dpa / lsw) - After the arson attacks on three buildings in Marbach (Ludwigsburg district), a man from Neckarstadt has to answer for attempted murder in court.

He is said to have set fire to his own apartment on the night of October 3 and then set fire to a Protestant church and a police station with Molotov cocktails, as accused by the prosecutor.

The trial begins today, but a verdict is not expected to be announced until the end of June.

The fire in the apartment of the then 42-year-old German had spread to the entire apartment building, in which four residents were sleeping at the time.

Two passers-by had alerted the police and saved the people.

From the point of view of the prosecutors, the accused man had at least accepted that the fire he had not only burned down the entire house, but also killed the sleeping neighbors.

The fire brigade had fought with the flames for hours.

However, the building could no longer be saved.

Eight people were injured.

Thereafter, the alleged arsonist is said to have thrown Molotov cocktails at the doors of the church and the police station.

According to the police, the man was in a "state of psychological emergency" at the time.
