Düsseldorf (dpa) - In the collective bargaining for the metal and electrical industry, employers and IG Metall are attempting a new agreement in North Rhine-Westphalia today.

They are meeting in Düsseldorf for what is now the seventh round of negotiations.

The two sides are still far apart, especially when it comes to the extent to which wages and salaries will be increased.

Last Friday, employers said they had offered a one-time payment of 350 euros for 2021.

The union dismissed this as "totally inadequate".

In other areas, however, there are approximations.

In the metal and electrical industry, negotiations are carried out for around 700,000 employees in NRW; nationwide there are around 3.8 million employees in the central German branches of industry.

The union started negotiations with the demand for a wage increase of 4 percent.

The regionally conducted collective bargaining negotiations are usually brought to a conclusion in a pilot district and then essentially taken over by the other collective bargaining areas.
